John E. Vicars

July 28, 1930 – Dec 2, 2024

John E. Vicars, 94, of Altoona, passed away Monday at his residence.  He was born in Altoona, son of the late Guy Sr. and Violet (Shirk) Vicars.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Georgia (Gable); two sons: Mark and Russell; five grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dwight; a brother, Guy Jr.; a sister, Mary Ann; and great-granddaughter, Aurora.

John was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School. He worked as a machinist for the PRR and the Alaskan Railroad, then retired as a delivery truck driver in 1992.   

He was a member of the First Church of Christ and the E.A.A.      

John enjoyed aviation, traveling, and woodworking.

Friends will be received from 2-4pm Monday, December 9, 2024 at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 4pm.
