Joseph C. Harteis, 69, of Carson Valley, passed away Friday after an ongoing battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He was born in Colver, son of the late Lawrence A. and Ruth M. (Bodenschatz) Harteis. He married Sandra J. Kirkham in 1980.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years; two daughters: Marisa Zerby and husband, Jack; Sarah Buck and husband, Adam; two sons: Ryan Harteis and wife, Amber; Eric Harteis and wife, Jessica; eleven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was one of sixteen children, with seven brothers and eight sisters. He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
Joe graduated from Bishop Carroll High School and earned a BS in Food Science from PSU. He worked as a PA State Food Inspector, Marketing Director for Blair County Convention Center, and was a Life Leadership Business Owner.
Joe served as Allegheny Township Supervisor since 2021 and was involved with several local and statewide political committees. He also served on the board of Day One Ministries in Altoona.
Joe was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where he served as an Usher for many years.
He loved God, his family and friends, his country and freedom, and fighting for what he believed in.
Friends will be received from 1-3pm and 5-7pm on Wednesday June 5, 2024, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. Hollidaysburg, where a Vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Thursday June 6, 2024, at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Alan E. Thomas, Celebrant. Committal at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
