Marilyn Brown Obituary

Marilyn Brown was a resident of Inglenook Apartments at the Presbyterian Village in Hollidaysburg since 2017.  Prior to that she lived with her husband, Russell, at 800 New Street in Roaring Spring for over 60 years.

Marilyn was born in Sonman, PA on November 13, 1926, the daughter of Ernest and Bess Randall.  She graduated from Portage High School in 1944 as the President of her class.  She then got her BS degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State Teachers College in 1948.

Marilyn taught her first year in the 4th grade at Adams School in Altoona, then two years in the 4th grade in Portage.

On June 24, 1951 she married Russell F. Brown of Roaring Spring.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her only sister, Thelma Jones.

She is survived by: her Husband, Russell Brown who was the former owner of Young’s Mineral Company and Northeast Agri Employment Agency, both of Roaring Spring; two Sons: Mark Russell Brown married to Joan live in Duncansville, PA.  Mark is a retired minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.  Craig Randall Brown married to Rebecca live in both Roaring Spring, PA and Delray Beach, FL.  Craig is the President and owner of Renaissance Nutrition, Inc.; five Grandchildren: Amanda Brown, Heather Chapell and her husband Colin, Christopher Brown, Luke Brown and his wife Julie, Vicky Banowsky and her husband Robert; three Great grandchildren: Catherine Mariam Chapell, Grace Arielle Brown, Anna Elizabeth Brown; two nephews: Randall Jones and his wife Kitty, and Gregory Jones and his wife Karen.

After her children were born, Marilyn taught 4th grade and kindergarten in the Spring Cove School district.  She helped to organize the first PTA in Roaring Spring.  She served on the Roaring Spring Library Board.

Marilyn was a founding member of Westminster Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Hollidaysburg where her son, Mark was the pastor for 40 years.  She taught youth Sunday School and along with her husband, Russell, provided roses and flowers for the service each Sunday.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren provided great joy to her life and she loved to keep in touch with them through text and email.   

Her hope and trust in this world and the next was solely in her savior, Jesus Christ.
