Mary Ellen Courtney, 91, of Avon, died Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Avon Oaks Caring Community. Born in Logan, PA, on August 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Helen (Howard) Taneyhill. Mary grew up and graduated from Altoona, PA before moving to Aurora, OH. She later moved back to Pennsylvania to care for family.

Mary worked for Ohio Bell, sold makeup for Fashion 220, and for many years was a waitress at Teddy’s Restaurant. She was active in her church helping with plays her husband Tom was involved with. Mary and Tom also enjoyed traveling and camping, especially to craft shows and fairs with their dog Katie, where they would sell handmade toys. She also enjoyed canning pickles and peppers.

Survivors include her children, Dan Krise, of Altoona, PA, and Cheryl (Tom) Koch, of New London, OH; grandchildren: Cassie, Alexis, Michelle, Christina, Nicole, Danielle, Jonathon, and Erin; great-grandchildren: Jaydhen, Sophia, Izzy, Scout, Alice, and Nate; brother, Daniel Taneyhill Sr, of Warren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, William S. Krise, and second husband, Tom Courtney; a daughter, Karen Krise-Seni; grandsons: Danny Krise and Sgt. William S. Krise II; and a brother Gene Taneyhill.

A graveside service will be held at 11am Thursday August 15, 2024 at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
