Mary Kirkham Obituary

Aug 25, 1936 - Aug 8, 2022

Mary E. (Smith) Kirkham, 85, of Duncansville, passed away Monday. She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Frank and Alma (Pollard) Smith. She married Paul D. Kirkham, who preceded her in death in 2016 after 54 years of marriage.

Surviving are a daughter, Kamala Pielmeier (Scott); a son, Korry (Suzy); four grandchildren: Kelsy (Dylan), Connor (Emma), Kolby and Kaden; a sister: Roberta Heuston; and a brother, Tommy.

She was preceded in death by four sisters: Ruth Miller, Betty Olivieri, Darlene Bowers and Romana Burget; seven brothers: Clair, Glen, Benny Lee, Wilford, Ray, Dean, and Gary.

Mary graduated from Morrison Cove High School in 1954, attended Bob Jones University in South Carolina, and graduated from Altoona School of Nursing in 1962.

Mary was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg.  Mary was faithful to the ministry of the church, sharing the many ways God touched and guided her life.  She dedicated much of her time to children’s ministry.

She retired from Altoona Hospital after 25 years as an RN.  One of her most rewarding jobs was her time spent in the role of “Nanny” for Dr. Alan Kivitz and Dr. Vicki Sommer.  Mary retired a second time from the Altoona Center for Clinical Research in February of 2014.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and planting flowers.

Mary will be remembered by family and friends as a true example of a faithful Christian servant, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She was diligent in her prayer life and everyone who knew her could come to her for prayer.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3pm on Sunday August 14, 2022, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg. A funeral service will be held at 10am Monday at First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg.
