Mary Kramar Obituary

Mary Margaret (Tiernan) Kramar, 94, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Tuesday, January 12, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, from COVID-19. She was born March 6, 1926 in Hollidaysburg, the daughter of Austin F. and Anna (Murphy) Tiernan. She married Ignatius John Kramar on February 27, 1954 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. John preceded her in death in 1982.

Mary Margaret is survived by her sister, Ruth J. Tiernan, of Our Lady of the Alleghenies Residence, Hollidaysburg, and her sister-in-law, Anna (Waksmonski) Tiernan, also of Hollidaysburg. She was preceded in death by her brother, Deacon John Tiernan. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, including Maureen Keefer (Jeffrey) of Baltimore, MD and Karen O’Donnell (Mark) of Westminster, MD, as well as great nieces and nephews, including Anna Keefer of Baltimore.

Mary Margaret graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1944 and from Seton Hill College in 1948. She worked as a teacher before moving to Chicago, where she worked for the IRS for 22 years until her retirement in 1989. Mary Margaret loved to travel; she toured many countries and with her husband, visited all 50 United States. She loved to read and the color purple.

Mary Margaret was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, Mary Queen of Angels Fraternity in Altoona. She was also a proud member of St. Mary’s church choir. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be deeply missed.

Due to the pandemic, private services were held virtually at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg.

Memorials may be given to Garvey Manor.
