Michael Murphy Obituary

Michael Edward (Mike) Murphy, 60, of Altoona, PA, passed away unexpectedly, at his home, January 30, 2025.  He was born, the third of three children, to the late Joseph G. Murphy and Helen (Shaffer) Murphy May 10, 1964 in Washington, DC.

Mike was a graduate of Altoona Area High School in 1982.  After finishing training at the Travel Academy in Orlando, FL In 1987, he began a long career in the travel and customer service industries.  Mike began working for Greyhound Lines, Inc. and then his path ultimately lead to a position as a service representative in cable communications at Atlantic Broad Band where he had 27 years of service at the time of his retirement.  Mike was also an enterprising entrepreneur who began his own business, All-Brite Carpet Cleaning, which he successfully ran for several years with his father.  Mike married his wife Regina (Albright) in 1995 and they welcomed their son Nathan in 1999.  Nate was the pride and joy of Mike’s life, his love for Nate was always on display in his actions and conversations.  He loved being involved with coaching and helping Nate in Pee Wee Football, Little League Baseball, Soccer and navigating life’s challenges.

Mike simply loved sports; he had great sports-intuition and was among the most passionate football spectators.  Fall was his favorite time of year with the gridiron on full display.  Mike was a diehard Commanders (Redskins) fan from a very young age and avidly followed Notre Dame.  This past season was particularly enjoyable for him with the Commanders run to the NFC Championship and Notre Dame’s run at a National Championship.

Mike was a hard worker and a man of many talents and interests.  He loved music, whether playing his bass, attending live performances or listening to his favorite artists, especially the Beatles, music was an integral part of his being.  Mike enjoyed being outdoors hiking and camping.  One of his favorite places to frequent was Parker Dam State Park.  He made many trips and spent a good deal of time there with his family.  He also cherished the family trips to Florida visiting Disney World, time relaxing on Hutchinson Island and hanging out in Daytona Beach!

We will all remember Mike as a stubborn but fair person who had a tremendous sense of humor.  He loved his family and friends and had special relationships with all of his nieces and nephews, they all loved Uncle Mike!

Mike was preceded in passing by his Father and Mother. He is survived by his wife of 29 years Regina, his son Nathan of Altoona, Sister Joan Wagner (Keith) of Latrobe, and Brother Joe of Altoona.  He is also survived by his 6 nieces: Amanda, Justine, Bailey, Brandi, Avery, Colbie: and 7 nephews: Tyler, Matthew, Nicholas, Matt, Connor, Blake and Kayden.  Mike was affectionately known by some as Uncle Vice and Uncle Mike tickle Monster, He will be missed by all.

Mike was a life-long Catholic and was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church.
