Pastor Edward Harshbarger Obituary

Pastor Edward C. Harshbarger, 91, Altoona, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 9, 2023. He was born in Petersburg, PA on November 15, 1932.

He graduated from Mount Union High School and West Chester University with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. After college he attended the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary, receiving his Pastorate. He has faithfully served in the Lutheran Church (LCA and ELCA) for more than 60 years, many of those in the Altoona area, and most recently St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Martinsburg, PA. He was also director of the Tyrone Choral Society for several years in the late 1970s to early 1980s. His many hobbies included running, hunting, fishing, and golfing.

He is preceded in death by his parents Clark and Dora Harshbarger, daughter Debra Harshbarger, brother Arthur Harshbarger, sister Martha Blessing, sister Julia Hasson, sister Marcia Brandenburg, and sister Ann Cooper.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Harshbarger, daughter Martha Lombardi and her husband Johnny, Eagle, CO, son Mark Harshbarger and his wife Paula, Mount Joy, PA, son John Harshbarger and his wife Karen, Maple Grove, MN, son James Harshbarger and his wife Susan, Herndon, VA, and son Luke Harshbarger, Altoona. He is also survived by step-daughters Cathy Loose, Reading, PA, Patti Pritchard, Rehoboth Beach, DE, Nancy Lawler, Galloway, NJ, along with 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no viewing. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, PA on January 13, 2024 at 11:00AM. Family will receive visitors starting at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, please make monetary donations to Camp Sequanota, P.O. Box 245, Jennerstown, PA 15547.
