March 16, 1932 – March 29, 2024

Patrick A. Bachtell, 92, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday March 29th at UPMC Altoona.  He was born in Johnstown, son of the late Earl and Marguerite (Bender) Bachtell.  He married Katherine J. Pastor, who preceded him in death in 2021 after sharing 61 years of marriage.

Surviving are a daughter, Heather Sundell and husband Eric in MD; a son, Patrick and wife Liz of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren: Liam, Sean, Claire, Patrick, and Kathleen; and two sisters: Ruth Clarke and Rhoda Booterbaugh.

He was preceded in death by siblings: Dr. Janice Bachtell and Mary Kay Rightnour.

Pat graduated from Lilly Washington HS in 1950, and St. Francis Univ., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and english.

He served in the US Army during Korea and retired as an Insurance Claims Manager.

Pat was a member of the Rotary Club of Hollidaysburg.  He and his wife, Katherine, were founding members of the Washington Community Theatre.

He attended daily Mass for many years.

Pat enjoyed fishing with the grandchildren; the Altoona Curve, where he was an original season ticket holder; gardening, genealogy, traveling, and he loved Civil War history.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9am Saturday April 20, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry, with Fr. Allen P. Zeth, celebrant.  Private committal at Prospect Cemetery in Portage.
