Robert E. Merritts

Robert E. “Bob” Merritts, 87, of Williamsburg, passed away Friday at his residence.  He was born in Altoona, son of the late Robert E. and Violet A. (Walker) Merritts.  He married Annette N. Hoover in 1958.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years; a daughter, Suelynn A. Shiller and husband David in Alexandria; two grandchildren: Lucas and Logan.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Alverda.

Bob graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1953 and attended Penn State and Youngstown Universities.  He retired from the Hollidaysburg State Hospital as a recreational director, then Sky Bros. Inc., and the Blair County Courthouse.  He was also a former administrator of Blair County Children’s Home in Williamsburg.

Bob served in the USMC during the Korean Conflict.  He was a 65-year member of Hollidaysburg Lodge No. 220 F&AM, and was a 32nd degree Mason in AASR Valley of Altoona, and a member of the York Rite bodies.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed grandchildren, woodworking, hunting, and playing cards.

Friends will be received from 5-6pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 6pm with Pastor David Bowman officiating.  A Masonic Memorial Service will follow.
