Ronald E. Schlecht Sr., 71, of Hollidaysburg, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Albert Sr. and Helen (Kachele) Schlecht. He married Eileen Langguth on June 27, 1970, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife, his daughter, Heather (Archie) Hill of Tampa, FL, his son, Ron Jr. of Boyertown, PA, and his brother, Albert Jr.; five grandchildren: Anna, Ella, and Maura Schlecht, and Holden and Noelle “Pumpkin Pie” Hill, all of whom he dearly loved and enjoyed. He was also Uncle to many nieces and nephews that were very special to him, especially Joe who shared many hunting adventures and good times with him. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law: Kathy Davidson, Carol and Cindy Langguth, and four brothers-in-law: Rich and Don Langguth, Tom Davidson, and Kurt Kessler.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Denise Kessler of Chantilly, VA and a sister-in-law, Irene Schlecht.
Ron was a 1966 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He was employed by the Generation Division of Reliant Energy, and retired in 2003 after 21 years of service.
He was a member of Brush Mt. Sportsman, Cesare Battisti, and a life member of the Unter Uns and Bavarian Hall.
Ron enjoyed hunting, and especially deer season where he was very successful in shooting many deer throughout his years. He also enjoyed helping his children with home projects, and always had a well-thought-out solution for any problems. He greatly enjoyed wintering in Florida, and traveling to many places with his friends and relatives.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where a funeral mass will immediately follow at 11:00. Father Alan Thomas officiating. Committal at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
