Sandra "Sandy" Thompson Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Anne (Andrews) Thompson, 73, Altoona, "the love of my life," passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, from natural causes under the care of hospice and family.

She was born in Johnstown, daughter of the late Andrew "Skip" and Loretta (Holtz) Safko.

Surviving are her husband of 40 years, David Jay Thompson; two sons: Brett Adrian and Scott Anthony Andrews and their father, Richard Andrews; grandchildren: Brett Allen, Amanda, Cassandra and Joshua; numerous great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Cynthia, Andrea and Teresa.

Sandy was a graduate of Bishop Carroll High School in Ebensburg, Class of 1964. She went to Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, IL., with her first husband, Richard Andrews, where she worked a civil service job for the Air Force and where she gave birth to her two sons. Sandy worked in the Air Force's first word processing center, and where she started at the bottom as a distribution clerk and worked her way to the top position, chief operator of the center.

She moved to Connecticut, with her husband, Dave, in 1983 and started her own desktop publishing company, "All Write," in 1985 and retired in 2010. She returned to Altoona in 2001 to be a caretaker for her aging mother.

Sandy loved reading, her cats and was an avid follower of the musical group, Celtic Thunder.

She was a member of the Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the family will hold a celebration of life memorial service in the future, when it is safe to have crowds larger than 10 people.

In lieu of flowers, Sandy's wish is for you to support your local cat shelter with a small donation.
