Sherwood “Woody” A. Burger, 94, of East Freedom passed away Monday surrounded by his family. He was born in Duncansville, son of the late Calvin E. and Dorothy C. (Troutman) Burger. He married Marjorie Irwin, who preceded him in death in 2013 after sharing 57 years of marriage.
Surviving are two daughters: Pamela England and husband William of Roaring Spring, Mary Ellen Glass and fiancée Rick Smith of Duncansville; two sons: Brice and wife Penney of Martinsburg, and Daniel and wife Christine of Altoona; 8 grandchildren: Benjamin, Lauren, Rachael, William, Andrew, Joseph, Aaron, Luke, and three great-grandchildren; three sisters: June Hoover, Madeline Foor, Ramona Landis; and a twin brother, Edward.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Chamberlain.
Woody graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1950 and served in the US Army for five years, then served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He retired as a shift supervisor from Appleton Papers in 1992 after 31 years service.
Woody was a member of Williamsburg American Legion Post 456.
He was an avid hunter and sportsman, enjoyed his morning walks, and spending time with his family.
There will be no public services at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg.
