Sylvia “Sue” A. Asan, 88, of Hollidaysburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Homewood at Martinsburg. She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Earl and Cornelia (Appleman) Hartman. She married Robert P. Asan on May 19, 1956, in Pittsburgh. He preceded her in death in 2017, after 61 years of marriage.
Surviving are three cousins: Clyde Black of Hollidaysburg, Ted Appleman of Martinsburg, and Dick Appleman of Woodbury; two sisters-in-law: Arlene Reiser of Rochester, NY and Karen Zylman of Richland, WA; and their extended families.
Sue graduated from Roaring Spring High School in 1950 and then pursued training as an airline ticket agent-reservationist and worked in Chicago and Detroit. Sue and Bob made many moves throughout the states of Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Virginia before settling back in Pennsylvania in 1981. She was employed at Kaufman’s Wedding World and Brande-Saad Optometrists until retirement in 1995.
Her volunteer activities over the years included UPMC Altoona campus, Make-A-Wish, Reading for the Blind, and Altoona Food Bank. She was an active member of church, participating in Bell and Senior Choirs, Church Council, and Tape Ministry to shut-ins with home communion. Sue enjoyed music, theatre, reading, crossword puzzles, bus trips, and walking on Rails to Trails.
At Sue’s request, there will be no public services. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Martinsburg. Arrangements by Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg.
