Vera J. (Cannarsa) Barefoot

June 7, 1933 – Sept 18, 2022

Vera J. (Cannarsa) Barefoot, 89, of Duncansville, passed away Sunday afternoon at her home. She was born in Library, PA, daughter of the late Alighieri and Marie (Burya) Cannarsa. She married Richard W. Barefoot in 1954 at the First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg. He preceded her in death in 2016.

Surviving are three daughters: Elizabeth “Betsy” Barefoot of Alexandria, VA, Cathy Barefoot of Keysville, VA, and Amy Barefoot of Richmond, VA; two sons: Richard “Rick” and wife, Jennifer of Duncansville and Michael and wife, Celine of Wilmington, NC; nine grandchildren: Sarah, Andrew (Pamela), Colin, Nicolas, Quinn, Aidan, Ethan, Evan, and Clare; a sister, Arline Hughes and husband, Bill of The Villages, FL; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Barefoot of Altoona.

Vera graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1950 and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Penn State University in 1954. She was an Elementary School teacher and retired in 2001 from Spring Cove School District.  

Vera enjoyed opera, gardening, playing bridge, sudoku puzzles, Old Western movies, attending Penn State football games, and watching Pittsburgh Penguins hockey.

At Mrs. Barefoot's request, there will be no viewing or funeral services.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7pm Friday, September 30, 2022, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg.   

Interment at Alto Reste Park.          

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Family Hospice: 20 Sheraton Dr. Altoona, Pa 16601 or to a charity of your choice.
