Veryle K. (Wilt) Shaffer

Veryle K. (Wilt) Shaffer, 84, of Roaring Spring, passed away Wednesday at Homewood. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Glendon R. and Evelyn C. (Grove) Wilt. She married Mearle C. Shaffer Jr. in 1966.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years; two sisters: Wyona J. Wilt and Lora L. Keith; two nieces: Roxanne Vaughn (Clark) and Lisa Krusey (Todd); a nephew, Glendon Vaughn (Sherry); great-niece and nephews: Arabella, Ryan, Joseph, Allen, Todd Jr., Roman, Conner, and James; and a good friend, Nettie.

She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Sheridan “Paul” Keith.

She was a 1958 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1959 graduate of Altoona Beauty School. She worked as a beautician at Hatch Beauty Shop.

Veryle was a lifetime member of Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church, a former member of the Scotch Valley Grange, and a former member of the Shanty Shakers Campers Club.                   

She enjoyed carving, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and she made hundreds of bracelets which she shared with everyone.

Friends will be received from 11am to 2pm Friday, August 30, 2024 at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 2pm.      

Private interment at Carson Valley Cemetery.
