Walter C. Wohler, 93, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday at his residence with family by his side. He was born in Brookhaven, NY, son of the late Alfred L. and Florence P. (Hutchinson) Wohler. He married Erma Friend in 1957.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years; two daughters: Pamela Wohler (Mark) of Chambersburg, and Debbie Woomer (Bob) of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Brad of Hollidaysburg, and Mark (Audrey) of Duncansville; three grandchildren: Shawn, Joshua, and Andrew; two great-grandchildren: Isabella and Patrick; a sister, Carole Lacock; a brother, Donald; a friend/brother, John Tate.
He was preceded in death by siblings: Alfred Jr., Jacqueline Festog, John, Harry, and Stanley Wohler.
Walter graduated from South Union HS, California State Teachers College, and WVU.
He served in the US Air Force and retired as a wood/metal shop teacher from Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School.
Walter was a member of Hollidaysburg Lodge No. 220 F&AM.
He was a faithful and active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was co-founder of the Faith Riders with his close friend, Jim Rhoades. He served as an usher, also on church council with Zion, and was a member of the Lighthouse Ministries Men’s Fellowship.
Walter was a great provider and beloved family man who took great pride in the time he spent with his children, grandsons, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed helping people. He cherished his beautiful wife and spoke of his love for her always. Being a man of his word, his biggest attributes were to teach, educate, and offer guidance to anyone at any time especially when it came to sharing about God, prayer, and the miracles he experienced. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his many friends and neighbors.
Friends will be received from 12 noon to 2pm Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg and from 10am – 12 noon Monday, January 27, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service with military honors will immediately follow at 12 noon.
Private interment at Alto Reste Park.
