William Garver Biesecker, 85, of Hollidaysburg, PA, passed away
Wednesday.
He was born in Martinsburg, PA, son of the late Donald E. Biesecker and
Anna Marguerite (Replogle) Biesecker. He will be dearly missed by his
beloved wife of almost 40 years, Donna (Snyder); children: Curtis and
wife Tracey (Slogik), Wendy Orr and husband Johnny; grandchildren:
Natalie (David Crytser), Alayna (Javion Queen), Alexander, J. Grady
(Miriyam Silver), and Hunter; great grandchildren: Cole, JohnJohn, and
Lila; sister-in-law: Jackie Biesecker.
He was preceded in death by his brother Terry (d.2023), and his former
wife Norma Harshbarger (d.2015).
Bill was a 1957 graduate of Altoona High School. He proudly served in
the United States Marine Corps and spoke often of his time in Japan
and Guam. He possessed a natural and extraordinary ability to
understand, diagnose, and fix mechanical problems with ease. This skill
led him to a job with the Brumbaugh Body Company where he built fire
engines, and then to a machinist position at the Naval Ordinance Plant
in York, PA. He moved back to Altoona, PA where he specialized his
mechanical skills over the next two decades working on ball bearing
machines at SKF. Bill took a job with Fafnir Bearing Company in Georgia
for several years before finishing out his career as a consultant for SKF
Sweden, Lidkoping Mechanics. He became a sought-after expert in the
installation and troubleshooting of ball bearing machines, travelling to
many different countries in this capacity. He especially enjoyed the
time he spent in Sweden, both working and spending time with his
friends there drinking beer that “wasn’t half bad”. In Bill Biesecker
terms, that translates to - about as good as it gets!
In keeping with his mechanical proclivities, Bill had a passion for
motorcycles and cars. Some of the favorites that he owned over the
years were a 1972 Norton Commando, a Harley Davidson Night Train, a
Moto Guzzi Le Mans, a Corvair, a Jaguar, and an Austin Healey.
A hunter and fisherman, Bill enjoyed spending time in the woods and
on his boat with Donna at Raystown Lake and on Lake George, NY. He
was an avid reader and especially enjoyed military history. He loved his
family deeply and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Bill was a man of few words, a hard worker, and a deep thinker. Those
who knew him will miss his quiet strength and gentle soul.
