Founders, Lloyd and Melody Sorge

Lloyd C. Sorge, Supervisor

Lloyd was born in Altoona, PA in 1944, son of the late Charles W. and Geneva G. Sorge.  He was raised in Sugar Run, attending the historic one-room schoolhouse on Sugar Run Road.  He is a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School class of 1962; Chambersburg School of Nursing in 1970; Mount Aloysius in 1979; and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1980.  Lloyd is a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Era.   He is married to the former Melody Kunes.  Together in 1983, they purchased the Haller Funeral Home in Hollidaysburg, eventually re-naming it Sorge Funeral Home.  In 2001, the old building was demolished and a new, modern building was erected in its place. The current funeral home was upgraded in 2018 to include an on-site crematory.

Lloyd enjoys hunting and being in the outdoors.

Ashley K. Sorge, FD

Ashley was born in Altoona, PA in 1974 and grew up in Lakemont.  He is a 1992 graduate of Altoona Area High School, and a 1996 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ.  He graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 2001, and then joined the family funeral home full time.  He still works part-time as a commercial pilot, flying out of the Bedford County airport.  He lives on an early 1800’s period farm in Carson Valley, where he enjoys managing the property for the Green Briar Hunting Club Inc.

When he isn’t at the funeral home or flying, he enjoys SCUBA diving for fossils in South Carolina and he stays active in the local SCUBA club.  Ashley is an avid hunter and enjoys carpentry, RV’ing, and motorcycle rides to the west coast.

Aden R. Sorge, FD

Aden was born 1983 in Altoona, Pennsylvania.  He was raised in Lakemont, and graduated from Altoona Area High School in 2001.  As a member of the 125th class of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, Aden graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned a diploma in Embalming and an Associate in Specialized Business degree. In 2003, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Specialized Professional Studies – Funeral Service from Point Park University.  After the successful completion of his internship in 2004, he received his Pennsylvania Funeral Director and Embalmer license in January of 2005. That same month, Aden enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a 92M (Mortuary Affairs Specialist).  During his enlistment, Aden was called upon to assist with the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief in New Orleans, LA in 2005.  He completed a deployment in Iraq from 2006-2007 during the Operation Iraqi Freedom campaign, and later had the privilege of providing Military Honors for America’s fallen at Dover Port Mortuary, DE  from 2007-2008.  In January of 2009, Sergeant Sorge was Honorably Discharged after four years of Active Duty service.  In February of 2009, Aden became a full-time employee of Sorge Funeral Home, Inc. where he’s currently employed, as well as working as an Operator at the Sunset Crematory LLC.  In 2017, the Altoona Mirror named Aden as one of its “20 Under 40” in the Blair County area, the criteria for selection of which includes “business success, entrepreneurial spirit, and community service of those who have contributed to the betterment of life in the region.”

Aden is an avid Pittsburgh Penguins hockey fan who also enjoys SCUBA diving, skydiving, Spartan Races, hunting, traveling, and volunteering his time with his fellow Imperials of the 501st Legion – Vader’s Fist, a Star Wars-based costuming organization dedicated to the betterment of local communities through costumed charity and volunteer work across the world.

Madisson Baldwin, FD

Madisson is a graduate of Somerset Area High School, class of 2016, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She also graduated from California University of Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, both with honors; thereby earning a B.S. in Biology and AST in Funeral Service Arts and Sciences. She joined the Sorge Funeral Home staff in 2020. Having successfully passed her State and National Board exams on the first sitting, Madisson is energetically establishing her place in the funeral service industry.  Madisson is the daughter of Ray and Melodie Baldwin of Somerset. She is an exercise enthusiast who enjoys her cat, Noodle. Her hobbies include supporting local businesses and attending community events uptown on the Diamond. She enjoys challenging puzzles and a good book.

Kirsten Wenner

Kirsten was born in Knox, PA, where she lived most her life. She is a 2016 graduate of Keystone High School, attended Clarion University, and finished her education in 2023 at The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.
"Kay" has more than 10 years experience serving families in the funeral service industry.  She moved to Hollidaysburg to join the Sorge Funeral Home staff in 2023.
Kay is the daughter of Greg and Cathi Wenner of Knox. She is also the mother of Kinley, who keeps her very busy outside of work. Kay enjoys boating, spending time with family and friends, and reading.
In her spare time, she can be found at the Hollidaysburg Public Library or Canoe Creek State Park.

James R. Dodge, Office Manager

Jim was born in Oakland, MD. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm.

He moved to the Duncansville area in 1978. Jim worked in the automotive collision field until 2005 when he came to Sorge Funeral Home as an office manager.

In 2016 Jim had the idea to have an in house crematory. After two years of diligent research and planning, Sorge Funeral Home now offers in house cremations.

Jim also is a member of Journey Church, Hollidaysburg. Journey Church is an independent, non-denominational church for believer's of all backgrounds. Anyone who loves to worship God, and has a hunger for His presence, will feel at home.

He is married to Lori Dodge, together they have 6 children, 8 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Jim enjoys riding his incumbent bike, audio books, and being outdoors.
