Doris M. (Long) Hess

Doris M. (Long) Hess, 91, Duncansville, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, at her home.

She was born September 13, 1925, in Duncansville, daughter of the late Raymond R. and Pearl (Spidle) Long. In 1951, she married Donald R. Hillegass, and he preceded her in death in 1973.

Surviving are a daughter, Suzette Mort and husband Fred of Duncansville; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.          

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nanette Bates.

Doris was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School, and then she attended New York Fashion Design School. She worked for the family business, Blue & White Bus Lines, then later retired as a ticket agent for Greyhound.

She was a member of the Hollidaysburg Chapter 471 Order of the Easter Star, where she was Worthy Matron in 1965 and 2003. She was a regular volunteer at Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home. She enjoyed travel, crossword puzzles and cooking.

Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where an OES service will be held at 4:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
