while catching up on the altoona mirror I just became aware of Pen's death - he was a wonderful man and a great friend to me when one was most needed -Pen and I hit it off from the first time we met -I was a young lawyer who was working carrying a beeper to respond and protect the rights of people picked up with mental health issues - Pen was already in an administrative role - from 1975 -1988 we saw each other a lot - I remember so well the confidence that Pen showed in me at a time when he had more faith in what we could accomplish than I did -he was easy to respect and so anxious to make our little bureaucracy better. Of course, over time I also learned what a man of faith PEN was - there is no more important attribute and Pen exceeded almost everyone I know in his faith life - with complete confidence that he is in that happy place in which he placed his trust I mourn the loss of a fine man and friend - frankly, we can only afford to lose so many like him - his type are to hard to replace. I will always treasure memories of our ramblings around Sinking Valley looking for quartz crystals, poking around in the quarry in Mt. Pleasant Mills, and his stores as we sorted stuff in the Barn @ Ft. Roberdeau. Penn's greatest legacy to me was his spontaneous talking to God.
May the God of All Hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope "

The time I knew Pen Ambler was short, but his kindness was just as obvious as his passion for Rock&Minerals. He left the world a better place than he found it.
